Welcome to the interview with Fortelling’s third Author of the Month and second in line of our Fortellia event chain. My name is Paul, and I am glad to introduce the author of “The Librarian”: Brynn Etchison.

How are you feeling, and especially: How does it feel being announced as Author of the Month?
I’m extremely grateful but also somewhat in shock that I’m the Author of the Month for June. Writing is a big part of my life and I haven’t had the chance to share that with many people until I stumbled across Fortelling, so hearing that people like my work is a huge honor.

How did you come up with the story of “The Librarian”?
It was 10 p.m. and inspiration just struck. I was tired and just reading the prompt, I knew I wanted to create a librarian. Eventually the idea grew in my mind to make the story mythology-based and I just rolled with it. I know a lot of other authors take time to plot out exactly what they want to happen, but I kind of go with the flow and see what I can come up with in the moment.

What are you currently working on as a writer?
I’m a student-athlete first, author second, so I’m not working on anything too major right now. I have a few concepts for books I’d like to finish and potentially release somewhere, but for now I can confirm that I will continue to be active on Fortelling Challenges!

How have you been getting into writing?
In the past, I wrote because I wanted to be like my favorite authors. I wanted to experience that kind of success. Now I’m into writing because it’s my passion, and I write in my free time and share my work with friends and family.

For how long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing for pleasure for about three years. When COVID hit, I had more time than I knew what to do with, so I decided to try my hand at it and found that I really enjoyed it.

When did you discover Fortelling?
I actually discovered Fortelling back in the middle of May but only had the chance to download it three days before the challenge.

How do you weave the App into your writing routines?
I use the app to organize characters, like documenting how they look, their personality, their relationships with other characters, et cetera. But I also use it to plan out specific scenes that I want to include in my writing.

Is there some advice you want to give your fellow writers?
My advice to other writers is that some days writing won’t be easy, and some days it won’t be hard. But don’t let that change how you feel about writing. I have in the past, and that’s one of the greatest mistakes I’ve made.
